AMSTERDAM
SMART CITY
Amsterdam Smart City is an innovation platform that brings together proactive citizens, innovative companies, knowledge institutions and public authorities to shape the city of the future. Amsterdam Smart City consists of a public private partnership and an international community. By sharing knowledge and by collaborating they come up with innovative solutions for metropolitan issues of a social, economic and ecological nature. This way they ensure that the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area remains liveable, now and in the years to come.

However, Amsterdam Smart City noticed that it was hard for the common citizen to find his/her way to the platform and know how to use it. They were looking for a broader audience and new perspectives on their current platform, in order to come up with an innovative redesign that could be an improvement on all levels.

Alberga Consultancy teamed up with Amsterdam Smart City in a 3 day Design Sprint program, which focused on new digital input and involving the user in a playful way, using the 'city' as a map during the brainstorm phase.
In the end, the 'map' of Amsterdam was taken very literally and translated into a platform that used important buildings of the city as a reference to several services. At the OBA (library of Amsterdam) for example you can collect knowledge and talk with other online members about 'the city of tomorrow', while at the Amsterdam Marketplace you can start your own initiative or cooperate on other ideas. The idea behind the final concept is to address the community in a different way and incorporate them, by making them 'smart citizens'.
Alberga Consultancy moderated the Design Sprint, but also challenged the concept, being both the facilitator as a designer, in order to get the most out of the concept.
